Riverside School and Nursery

Riverside is a fantastic school and nursery in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire

The Beacon

We are proud and excited to welcome you to The Beacon at Riverside.

Riverside Primary School has worked closely with the Local Authority to develop a Targeted Mainstream Provision (TMP) known in school as The Beacon. A TMP provides specialist support within a mainstream setting, so all children can flourish, thrive and succeed in all they do, as well as be appropriately prepared for their next stage in life. The Beacon at Riverside is one of two TMP sites within the Yorkshire Learning Trust (YLT), with the other TMP site being at Brayton Primary School. More information about Riverside Primary School can be found here: https://www.riverside.n-yorks.sch.uk/.

Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do within The Beacon. We have developed an inclusive learning environment specifically designed to support children with a range of Communication and Interaction (C&I) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within a mainstream primary setting. The Beacon will provide a bespoke and personalised education for up to 8 children, with an individualised timetable focusing on EHCP outcomes, personal and social development, independence, addressing barriers to learning and incorporating time within both The Beacon and within the mainstream classroom, as appropriate for each individual child. We are needs led and not diagnosis led.

We are extremely lucky to have such a wonderful learning space in school made up of a large and airy classroom, sensory room, outside area, kitchenette and pupil toilet. The Beacon is part of the main school building, allowing pupils access and use of the wider school environment. The Beacon also has its own access from the school car park as well as access through the main school office.

The Beacon is led by the TMP Lead and we are fortunate to have a dedicated and highly skilled staff team, made up of a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) and 2 Teaching Assistants (GTA).

Strong collaboration and communication are key aspects of what makes us successful here in The Beacon. We form close links with the Local Authority and external agencies and work closely with parents to ensure all voices and views are heard, respected and valued. Gathering pupil and parent voice and sharing strategies together are central to ensuring we are continuing to achieve success for all pupils as they develop and grow and continually improve the provision we offer. This will be achieved through both informal and formal opportunities, including face to face communication, parental communication apps, parents’ evenings and annual reviews.

The Local Authority is responsible for allocating places within The Beacon, as part of a consultation process, for example involving the pupil’s annual review or a statutory assessment process.

If you have any queries or questions, or would just like to hear more about us, please don't hesitate to get in touch. We can’t wait to welcome you to The Beacon and tell you more about all of the wonderful things we do.
