Governors
Within the STAR Multi Academy Trust, each school has a Local Governing Board (LGB) that supports the work of the Trust and the school. It has certain delegated authority to oversee the running of the school under the Scheme of Delegation as defined by the Trust Board of the STAR Multi-Academy Trust. The Register of Business Interests is available via the Trust Board website click here
Minutes of the LGB for each school are available on request from the School Office or clerktogovs@starmat.uk
Our LGB reports into the STAR MAT's board of trustees. Full details of the STAR MAT's governance structure can be found here.
About our Local Governing Body (LGB)
Our governors are all volunteers. They work to support and challenge the school's leadership team.
All governors are equal voting members regardless of the category of governor or the manner of their appointment.
Our chair of governors can be contacted via the school office in the first instance. Email schooloffice@rs.starmat.uk and mark for the attention of Mrs Rebecca Everitt/Mrs Michelle Kershaw, Co-Chair of Governors.
If you are interested in joining our governing body please contact the chair of governors via the school office in the same way.
What do governors do?
Our governing board provides strategic leadership and accountability in school. It has three key functions:
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
- Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
Contact the Co-Chair of Governors directly via cofg@rs.starmat.uk
Meet the Governors
I have taught across the key stages and found my niche in Early Years. I am now Early Years Leader and Assistant Headteacher.
I am working with the EYFS Team to create a new Early Years unit with a shared provision across the 3 classroom and outdoor areas to enhance the learning environment and experiences for all our little learners.
I am delighted to be a staff governor at Riverside and want to help support in the development of our school as we move forwards.
I have recently been elected as co-chair of Riverside. I have worked in education for over 10 years and now work as the CFO for a multi academy trust of mainstream primary and special schools in East Yorkshire. My strengths are finance, audit and risk. Having moved into the neighbouring area recently with my partner and our children I am keen to have a link to the local community. My step children attend STAR Mat schools so I have a vested interest in the trust. I have previous experience of being a governor in similar schools and am delighted to be working with Riverside.
Kirsten Sheppard, Trust Governor
Newly appointed.

“I was elected as a Parent Governor for Riverside in November 2023 with my son in Year 5 and daughter in Year 3. I’m extremely proud to have this opportunity to support our school and I am looking forward to helping continue its great work.
Professionally, I am a Programme Manager working for Network Rail within their network enhancement programme which provides me with numerous skills which I can transfer to the governor role (such as strategic planning and business change). Outside of work I am a sailing instructor and coach, and actively support both training at the local club and encouraging participation across the region. Seeing the development of participants as they engage with this sport is extremely rewarding. I plan to bring my range of experience to the governor team for the future development of our school.”
